João Eulálio Kaarah’s project mxsxk.com made my day. On this blog the Brazilian releases really nice mixtapes in a nice visual concept for download. He calls it an imaginary opera project citing this definition of the expression opera:
“Opera is an art form in which singers and musicians perform a dramatic work combining text and musical score. Opera is part of the Western classical music tradition. Opera incorporates many of the elements of spoken theatre, such as acting, scenery and costumes and sometimes includes dance. The performance is typically given in an opera house, accompanied by an orchestra or smaller musical.”
I don’t really get his argument for entitling this project opera and why each of the mixtapes is one act of this opera. (Are there operas consisting of seven acts? – I don’t think so.) Nevertheless I really like his choice of songs, the idea to design for every “record” a cover (like in the good old times when we made physical mixtapes) and most important: The idea of using a blog to express personal moods through the medium of music and its consequent accomplishment.
