The classics works “Teenage” and “Almost Grown” of Joseph Szabo are quoted as heavy inspiration by Terry Richardson, Larry Clark and many others. Don’t the pictures also remind of Sofia Coppola’s inner perspectives of teenagers? In the 70s Szabo, teacher of photography at a high school at Long island captured the pupils and their cliches of adolescence. The album cover of “Green Mind” by Dinosaur Junior will come back to many people’s minds but most of the others of Szabos photos have the same iconic potential. “Teenage” has been republished at Greybull Press in 2003 and has also been reedited by Colette in 2007.
